There are a whole bunch of things that set Texas-based photographer Diana Ascarrunz apart: Sheâs a woman of color with a photography BFA who works in the wedding industry. She started her career in commercial photography and joined the wedding world a year ago. Sheâs a newlywed and new to Austin, and she got married last Halloween. Sheâs also extremely into promoting and showcasing racial, ethnic, and cultural diversity on her site. She can also seamlessly hang with your grandma and your weird art school friends, and she does so like the pro she isâand with wedding rates beginning at $2,620 (and travel fees waived for APW readers), youâre going to want to find out more about her.
Her experience as a recent bride searching for her own wedding photographer means that Diana Ascarrunz can really relate to you. She gets what itâs like to wait two solid weeks for an email just to let you know that the photographer you love is booked, and if youâve ever looked at an amazing portfolio but been crestfallen when you realize that portfolio doesnât represent the world around us⌠sheâs been there. As she puts it:
When I was engaged, I looked at a LOT of photographersâ websites, so I know what itâs like. My wedding was going to be full of my Spanish-speaking family, my husbandâs English-speaking family, and my wonderful weirdo arty friends. I wanted someone who could move comfortably through it all.
Another fun fact? This year Diana shot the weddings of two women who are doing awesome work: Cristen, a co-host on the podcast Stuff Mom Never Told You, and Kat Lazo, aka TheeKatsMeoww.

If youâre looking for a great photographer for your wedding, look no further. Diana was easily one of the best decisions we made when planning our wedding. She was so easy to work with, and super responsive before and after our big day. Amidst all the craziness of wedding planning, Dianaâs responsiveness and flexibility was really a breath of fresh airâI never felt like our wedding was just one of many jobs for her and was never concerned she wouldnât show up and do an amazing job for us. And that she did. On our wedding day, you couldnât find a chiller or kinder photographer. When we arrived at the venue, Diana was already there scoping out the land and getting a feel for where we would take all our outdoor and indoor photos. She was excellent in balancing being a director while remaining patient and super chill whenever things became rushed or plans changed. She really seemed to make it all work. :) I even had several guests tell me during and after the wedding about how much they loved our photographer⌠yay! Then we got our photos back after the wedding, and whoaâwe were so moved by how she was able to capture the beauty and specialness of our day. So many of our photos look like scenes straight out of a Nicholas Sparks book! And they have such beautiful lighting in them. Her eye for lighting and her ability to manipulate the light in each photo makes her work go above and beyond average âgreat photosââthey become art. Thatâs the best way I know how to describe it. You could also tell she really took her time with editing the photos in such a way that truly captured the aura and magic of our wedding day. We were so happy with Diana, and her passion for this art form is very evident in the quality of our photos. If you go with her, you wonât regret it! âKate
