First of all, are you seeing our new How-To banner at the top of the page? Hopefully it will remind you to calm yourself down about DIY. Also, if you’re like me, you might also want to lick the screen because it’s SO PRETTY. Mmmm. Ok! Also! Speaking of licking the screen, lets talk about the lazy girl’s guide for making DIY Pie Pops for your wedding (yum), from reader Rachel:
From the craft store:
- Small short dowels (about the length of a popsicle stick, but round instead of flat and sturdier than your standard popsicle stick — I found them at Michael’s)
- Small square plastic bags, about 2.5 x 2.5 (also found at Michael’s, by the cake decorating supplies)
- Tulle
- Ribbon
From the grocery store:
Please Note: These ingredients vary depending on how many pops you want — figure about 10 small pops from a 9-inch pie dough
- Flour, salt, butter and water to make pie dough
- Canned pie fillings (we used pumpkin, apple, blueberry and cherry)
- Egg whites
Make a pie dough and cut out bite-sized circles. Place the dough circles on a cookie sheet and place a dowel on them, sticking well up into the finished pop for stability. Top with a small spoonful of filling (be careful not to overfill!) and another dough circle. Pinch the edges together and brush with egg whites. Bake at 375 for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
When they’re cool, bag them and tie the tulle around them with ribbon. We put colored dots on the bottoms of the dowels so people could tell what the flavor was, and we had a legend at the table where the pops were set up. They were beautiful and delicious!
